Last track event of the year: Perry Performance Friends and Family Day at ICAR

Trying to keep up with a Mustang

I wasn't able to take the yellow Civic (or the black one) to Mosport due to the leaking head gasket, but there was no real risk in driving it at a local track. Carl always organizes a "friends and family" day at ICAR at the end of the season, and I was not going to miss it, even if it meant leaving the track on a flatbed (spoiler alert: the car made it home under its own power). 

I figured I could go 15 or 20 minutes before the car would overheat, and then add water and let it cool. This worked for the first two sessions, but then the car would only last 10 minutes or so before the temperature would creep up. I took out my friend's Stéphane's niece in the first session, but I set up the timer in the second one and put together my best lap of the year, a 1:20.02, in the second session. I was sure I would be able to break into the 1:19's, but it was not to be, as my sessions were getting shorter and shorter. By mid afternoon, I decided to call it a day and head home while the car was still drivable. I didn't get all the track time I had hoped for, but I got in some good laps. I also got to see a few friends and chat with some people I hadn't seen in years. All in all, it was a worthwhile experience. I still enjoy this slow Civic on track and if I could just make it reliable, I look forward to driving it more next year. I also think that driving a slow car has allowed me to focus more on my driving, and although my driving has not been perfect, it's been pretty decent. To be continued in 2026...
