| Sylvain's RX-8 the week before the accident |
A few days ago, at Tuesday night lapping at ICAR, there was a tragic accident resulting in the driver losing his life. Sylvain Richard crashed in his Mazda RX-8 and the car caught fire. There was not really anything that could be done at that point to save him as it is believed he was unconscious in a burning car.
I knew Sylvain as a regular at ICAR and at St-Eustache before that. The week before the accident, we were at ICAR chatting about his busy retirement and his projects. Last season, out of the blue, he gave me a flash drive with a video of one of our last "battles" at St-Eustache, back when I had my yellow EP3 Civic. He was really one of the friendliest people you could meet at the track, and he was a solid driver as well. The track driving community has lost a truly great member.
