On Tuesday, I maged to head out to ICAR to do a couple of evening track sessions. There was no traffic when I left home just before 6:00 pm, but I arrived only about two minutes too late for a green group session. Luckily, I was able to convince the organizers to allow me into the following session, which was for race cars (Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières starts this weekend and people were practicing). I followed a Nissan Micra Cup car for a while and passed it when my tires were warmed up. The car felt like it was gripping better than it had last time when I was here with older tires... I was able to keep full throttle applied after the esses through the high-speed left hander before the back straight. Despite this, my lap times were not any better than last time (1:49.16). Looking at the data, I think I was just not driving that consistently. I really don't like the new 15-minute format, because you basically get 8 laps and the session is over. I often used to string together my best laps right at the end of the longer session.... anyway, driver excuse. My times did not improve in the second session, but the car felt good. I think the open differential is hurting me more at ICAR than it did at Tremblant. Regardless of the car's faults, I should be putting down faster lap times. The car was reliable and predictable. I think I just need a bunch more laps!
